The food department was established in Indo -the Pak subcontinent during World War II. In the beginning, the Department was called “Civil Supplies.” Its primary responsibility was to procure essential resources, such as sugar, rice, and wheat, in particular those commodities that were in short supply. The Department replenishes the stock to distribute to its general public by Rationing. Its “Civil Supplies” department was modernized in the year 1970. It was converted to an actual department and changed to the “Food Department.” It was transformed into an operational department independent of functional and provincial levels. The effects of the establishment of the Department for food were gradual. The sugar availability and rice were significantly increased. The wheat issue was the only one that needed to be dealt with. The Department was upgraded in October of 1999. The Food Department was upgraded to become a distinct administrative department with additional authority.
