Engineering College Admission Test (ECAT) is a test conducted in Pakistan each year for admission to BE/BS/BSc Engineering degree. ECAT is conducted by the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore in Punjab. It was started in 1998 on the initiative of Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to counter cheating in the examinations at that time. Each year some 45000 students attempt this test while there are some 3000 seats in public sector engineering institutions of Punjab.

ECAT is a pre-requisite for admission in UET Lahore and its affiliated institutions and all other public sector engineering institutions in Punjab. Some private institutions also require ECAT as a pre-requisite. ECAT is taken as multiple choice questions (MCQ). Eligibility

BS Civil Engineering/Electrical Engineering

  • At least 60% marks in SSC(Matric) or an equivalent examination.
  • At least 60% marks in HSSC (Pre-Engineering) or an equivalent examination.

Selection Criteria

Admission on the basis of NTS-NAT Marks

  • Selection is based on marks obtained in NTS NAT-IE.
  • Cut-off marks to be determined by the University.

Admission on the basis of NU Admission Test

  • Merit List is prepared by assigning 50% weight to marks obtained in Intermediate (part-I) (or an equivalent exam).
  • 50% weight is assigned to score obtained in NU Admission Test.
  • In case, Intermediate result is not available, Matriculation marks are used and multiplied by a factor of 0.9 (to equate it to average Intermediate marks).

Admission on the basis of SAT score

  • Combined score of 1,500 or more in the SAT-I examination.
  • At least 550 in the SAT-II (Math Level IIC) examination.

Merit Criteria for ECAT Test 2022

The quality of applicants will be assessed based on their admission marks, which are the most prestigious qualifications in the following exams. The following examinations will be considered.

  • H.S.C. (Pre Engineering):
    1. H.S.S.C (Pre-Eng) or equivalent, including 70 percent Sports and Hafiz-e-Quran marks
    2. Marks for Entry Test marks 30%
  • B.Sc. or B.A. Sc. :
    1. B.Sc. or B.A. Sc with Sports and 70 or B.A including Sports and 70 percent Hafiz-e-Quran mark and H.S.S.C (Pre-Eng) or an equivalent with sports and Hafiz-e-Quran marks
    2. Entry Test Marks 30%
  • Associate Engineer Diploma Engineer(for seating with fixed only):
    1. Associate Engineer Diploma with 70% sports and Hafiz-e-Quran marks
    2. Entry Test Marks 30%
  • B.Tech (for seat reservations only)
    1. B.Tech. Pass with Sports and Hafiz-e 70 percent Quran marks or Associate Engineer Diploma with marks for Hafiz-e Quran and Sports
    2. Entry Test Marks 30
